Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Arsenal career hasn’t hit the heights expected since joining the club from Southampton as a teenager in 2011. Although the England international has shown his enormous potential in plenty of small doses, he’s struggled to hold down a consistent role in Arsenal’s starting XI – with the question of what role actually suits him best seemingly at the crux of the issue.
Throughout his stay at the Emirates Stadium, the 23-year-old has been utilised as a central midfielder, a No.10 and a winger seemingly without convincing Arsene Wenger he’s worthy of starting in any of the positions on a weekly basis.
Oxlade-Chamberlain added another position to his growing collection on Sunday – right wing-back – as the Gunners came out on top in a close-knit FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City.
And while Ox-Cham fans may be concerned the 25-cap international is becoming a victim of his own versatility, there’s no question he excelled on the right-hand side of Arsenal’s 3-4-3 formation. Indeed, as our infographic shows, he finished up with four created chances (one of which was the assist for Nacho Monreal’s equaliser) eight crosses and six successful dribbles to his name – all three statistics being the highest returns of any Arsenal player.
